College 105 is a course designed to make the transition from high school to college much easier for college freshmen. By requiring College 105 students to attend six campus-sponsored activities, students gain an understanding of the campus and college life. Two of the activities that I attended in College 105 are the NBCI Diversity workshop and the Plagiarism Workshop.

The NBCI Diversity Workshop was an interesting activity to say the least. Instead of meeting to celebrate similarities among Tri-County Technical College students, we met to celebrate differences. The event was fun because those who attended were able to cheer and clap when others stood up to celebrate their religion, favorite music and even age. Looking back on the Diversity workshop, I’m really glad I was forced to attend it, because I know I would not have gone unless it was a requirement for College 105. I was able to learn a lot about my classmates, my peers, and even my English instructor, Dr. Norcross. It was really fun for me because I am usually shy and the workshop gave me a chance to really let loose show everyone a little about myself. I even got to meet new people when we were asked to break off into 2-person groups and do more activities to learn about each other.  I have no complaints about the Diversity Workshop. I think it was a beneficial campus activity that all students should attend.

The Plagiarism Workshop was the first campus activity I attended at Tri-County.  This activity was extremely beneficial to me because plagiarizing any type of work could get me kicked out of college. After hearing this, I knew I would be attending this workshop. In all honesty, the Plagiarism Workshop was boring. I almost felt like I was sitting through another English 101 class. During the workshop, we worked with paraphrasing and summarizing material so it would not be plagiarized. I had no idea this would benefit me so much until I got to my next English 101 class, and we talked about paraphrasing and summarizing. I had a head start on everyone because I already knew the material. I guess sometimes the most boring things are the ones that can benefit you the most. This is certainly true when I think back to the Plagiarism Workshop.
