SOC 101

SOC 101

Description:
This course shows you how things work in society. There are many things that you would not normally notice until you have taken this class. This class shows you how to be more observant. In this class you have to write five essays. These essays are not based on what you find in the book or what you have learned from the lectures; they are based on how you can apply what you have learned from both the book and the lectures, and be able to give examples.

Reflections:

This essay was difficult. I thought it would be easy and when I sat down to write it, it was like everything was just repeating itself. I learned that I should always let someone read over the paper before I turn it in to catch the small mistakes. On the positive side, I realized that I knew more about the subject than I thought I did. By writing this paper I learned more about George Herbert Mead’s theory of self and about socialization more in depth. The thing I got commented on was the fact that I had a weak introduction, so I know next time to pay special attention to the introduction. For future essays I will take the completed rough draft to Ms. Donovan so she can give me some pointers on what to revise.
