Sociology is a social science. In sociology we read about experiments, look at charts and study sociological theories. We study the theories of structural functionalists, conflict theorists, and symbolic internationalists. We have studied the effect gender, social class, race and ethnicity plays in social stratification. In sociology I have learned a lot of faults I had in my sociological logic. I am continuing to learn and improve my stereotypical ideologies. In Sociology I am learning about the positive and negative aspects of race, sex, and social class. We have studied the nature verses nurture debate, the moral development of a human being, culture, ascribed and achieved status, social stratification, and the social science process. Some of the theories we have studied were founded by Emile Durkheim, Friedrich Engels, W.E.B Du Bois, C. Wright Mills, Robert K. Merton, George Herbert Mead, and Charles Horton Cooley. Our text book is Sociology the twelfth edition by John J. Macionis.

         The socialization essay is the third essay I wrote for Sociology. We had to analyze the sentence: I am the sculptor you are the clay. We had to analyze it using what we have learned about socialization. I learned another important lesson after this essay was returned. I learned that I had to work on time management. I did not finish a draft of the essay in time to hand it in so my instructor could review it. As a result I wrote a very long essay that did not contain everything the instructor was looking for. It was very upsetting when I received the paper and it had a seven on it instead of a ten. My previous paper was a ten, and I was so sure this one would be a ten as well. Since I did not limit the time I worked on my first draft, my grade suffered. I also learned that in college there is no such thing as an easy “A”.
