ECA Math

In the spring of 2009, I was hired to teach a developmental math class to high school students at the Early College Alliance at EMU. I was hired one week before I was to begin teaching and I designed and planned my 6-week course in its entirety before my classes began. I am including a copy of syllabus as evidence of my instructional planning skills, as well as a comment regarding my syllabus from one of the other math instructors.

The objectives of the class were as follows:

  • Use order of operations to simplify expressions.
  • Use properties of exponents.
  • Solve problems involving addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of positive and negative integers.
  • Add, subtract, multiply and divide fractions, decimals and percents.
  • Change fractions to percents to decimals.
  • Solve ratio and proportion problems.
  • Solve word problems involving fractions, decimals, ratios and percents.

Hi Laura,

I can't remember if I ever told you that I love your syllabus :-)  Yup, I'm buttering you up!!!!!!!!  Do you mind if I use some of it in my fall syllabus? I just wanted to check in case you do mind (which is totally ok too!).
