I. NSCS Convention 2008

NSCS has arranged an action packed three-days during which you will Think Together. Move Ahead. As you plan your travel, please keep the start and end times in mind so you don't miss out.


Leadership Summit
The Leadership Summit is created specifically to cater to your leadership needs as a NSCS officer and serves as your training for the position. NSCS has dedicated a full day of leadership development seminars that include fundamental knowledge and training for you, including:
-Details about your role as a chapter officer
-Strategies about how to strengthen and grow your chapter
-Details about how you and your members can take advantage of the extensive benefits of NSCS membership
-Limitless opportunities to network with other officers and members from across the country


The Leadership Summit is a pre-conference opportunity at the NSCS Convention 2008, only open to Convention attendees. Leadership Summit events take place on Thursday, July 17.  To register, please visit the registration page.


Standard NSCS Convention 2008 rates:
-$199 - Early Registration (through March 7, 2008)
-$249 - Regular Registration (through May 10, 2008)
-$299 - Late and On-Site Registration
Registration includes all conference events and meals from the opening session on the evening of Thursday, July 17 through the closing session on Saturday, July 19. Please note, the cost of registration does not include travel or accommodations.

Bring resumes, business cards to hand out. This is a perfect opportunity to network too!

Scholarship is awarded to one (or more) UCF student(s) with the appropriate class standing (sophomore, junior, and graduate student) in Fall 2008.
- Must have a cumulative GPA (Grade Point Average) of at least 3.5.
- Undergraduates must be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours per semester and Graduates must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours per semester.
- Please review the application for any other requirements and supporting documentation.

Emily (Kaplan Test Prep)

 

I.                   LSAT (Law School Entrance Exam)

      31/2 hours

      180 max score

      Early preparation is key

      Test to see if you know how to think like a lawyer (analyze)

      Admission is down into law school because of less applicants

      160,000 yearly 1st year salary as a lawyer

      63% are accepted

      90% are accepted with Kaplan Test Prep

      132 questions/4 sections

 

II.                GMAT  (Business school)

      20-21 is the perfect time to take GMAT

      Test scores last for 5 years

      Take test now, get real world experience first then go into the MBA program

      GMAT has 3 sections

 

III.             GRE

      Used for admission into graduate school

      Computer based exam

Other tips when applying for grad school

 

  • Personal statements, interviews, letters of recommendations (touch on specific areas)
  • Make sure you adhere to the constraints to the applications.
  • Find someone willing to write a strong recommendation letter for you.
  • Ensure the letter is free of grammar and spelling errors.
  • Ask your recommender early and give them a strict deadline to complete the letter.
  • Ask for an interview with the graduate school admission office. This is a good way to show your personality.
  • Visit the campus.

Look to see what type of program and your goals to find out about graduate school

 

Is it feasible? How will you finance graduate school? Deciding on if you should go or not? Research your area of interest, but it’s ultimately persona; preference.

Officer Cowan (UCF Police Department)
• Provided quick tips on how to stay safe during spring break
• Simple tricks to escape an attacker: go for soft pallet areas on your attacker, including the nose, throat and eyes
• SAFE classes (self-defense classes for UCF students offered by UCF PD)

Basic NSCS info
• You’re still a member even if your GPA falls below a 3.4
• Induction is in the fall; new members can start participating right away
• No dues, one time membership fee covers you
• You’re still a member if you transfer schools
