My Lesson Plans

My first experience writing lesson plans began in my Methods of Teaching course. I was very excited to know how to write a proper lesson plan, as well as what each lesson plan consisted of. During the semester, my class learned about 4 different models of teaching: the Behavioral Model, Information Processing Model, Social Interaction Model and the Personal Model. Of these teaching models are what teachers call both methods and strategies, which involve how a teacher will go about teaching her students a particular topic.  

The first lesson plan we learned to write was a Direct Instruction lesson plan, which involves teaching students basic skills and new concepts. This type of lesson plan belongs to the Behavioral Model of teaching. I used this particular lesson plan to teach students about pollution, through an anticipatory set, a lecture, a demonstration, and then through guided practice, closure and independent practice.

The next lesson Dr. Smirnova introduced to us was Inquiry, which she demonstrated to us through the use of our WebQuests. Inquiry involves giving students a problem or puzzle to solve, and then setting conditions for students to solve the problem, using the steps of inquiry as their guide. My inquiry lesson, which was also my free choice lesson plan in submitting lesson plans was based on my WebQuest, 'Save Our Animals', which I was able to instruct during my fieldwork.

The last lesson plan that we learned about during the semester were cooperative learning lessons, which involve group work and social skills. We discussed several different methods and strategies that correlate with this lesson type, including the Jigsaw strategy which we were able to implement during class time, as a way to fully understand it's concept.
