Work Experiences

Ever since I turned 16 years old my Sophomore year in High School, I have been working in a professional atmosphere.

I began working in retail at Woodbury Common, located in Harriman, New York. Here, I worked at an outlet store for Calvin Klein, and worked there for my first 2 years of High School. When the store closed down, I immediately relocated to another outlet store for Polo Ralph Lauren. Here, I worked until my second semester of college, until they couldn't give me work hours that correlated with my school schedule.

I had numerous amounts of retail experience so not only was I able to find a new job, but I advanced to an outlet of higher pay and more responsibilites. Theory, which is a high-end clothing store, offered me a job as a Sales Associate-giving me responsibilities that I had never had before. After a few months of working for Theory, I came to a fork in the road. I could have decided to stay and advance my placement, or I could move on from retail al together and pursue my dreams of working with children and parents as an educator.

In February of 2004, I left Theory and moved on to a children's store known as Ariel's Child, which specializes in books, toys and teacher materials for special needs children through those who are gifted. I currently hold a key holder position at the store, and have been able to apply my knowledge from the store to my studies, as well as apply what I've learned through my school work to my store.

At Ariel's Child I help teacher's pick out material for their classroom, assist them in creating lesson plans, and help those parents and children who have special needs. I am satisfied each and every day in knowing that I have made a difference in children's lives!

Aside from working at Ariel's Child I also substitute teach. I have been subbing in the Newburgh City School District for grades K-12 for the last 2 years, and enjoy every minute of it. Each day that I am in the classroom, I am reminded of the reasons for why I want to teach, as it pushes me even harder to succeed both in school and out, in order to achieve my goals of becoming a teacher myself.
