Thoughts on Teaching

My Beliefs

*    Knowledge of the background and abilities of  the students are essential to planning.

*    It is always possible to present content that is both challenging to the teacher and interesting to the learner.

*    To be an effective teacher, one needs to continually reflect upon his/her work.

*    It is extremely important to receive feedback from your students on your own work.

My Goals

*    To use a variety of instructional methods so as many children as possible are involved in the learning process.

*    To allow the children to be in control of their learning as much as possible.

*    To use a variety of assessment tools so that the children's true understanding of content knowledge is reflected.

*    To encourage students to express their creativity and ideas.

*    To ask questions that provoke critical thinking.

*    To use all the resources available to my students and me both in school and in the community.

*    To be a dedicated, enthusiastic, patient, and creative teacher who is willing to provide the children with the time, materials, and attention they need to scaffold their knowledge.
