There is a topic sentence and supporting sentences. Response has supportive details, displays knowledge and facts to answer the questions.

Unacceptable

Does not address the question.

States no relevant answers.

Indicates many misconceptions.

Organization and structure detract from the answer.
Poor

Only minimally addresses the question.

States few relevant answers.

Indicates some misconceptions.

Inadequate organization or development. Structure of the answer is not easy to follow.
Good

Does not address the question fully.

States a relevant and justifiable answer.

Organization is mostly clear and easy to follow.
Excellent

Addresses the question fully.

States a relevant, justifiable answer.

Well organized, coherently developed, and easy to follow.
Grammar

Correct spelling, punctuation, grammar, and capitalization are used.

Unacceptable

Errors in all grammar conventions.
Poor

4 or more errors in grammar, spelling, or punctuation. These errors interfere with the overall response.
Good

1-3 errors occur in spelling, grammar, or punctuation, but they do not affect the overall response.
Excellent

No errors occur in spelling, no run ons, or punctuation errors.
Comprehension

Unacceptable

Does not demonstrate any
understanding of the question.

Does not provide any evidence to support
their answer to the question.
Poor

Does not demonstrate full
understanding of the question.

Provide little evidence to support their answer to the question.
Good

Demonstrates accurate but only
adequate understanding of question.

Provides just enough evidence to support
their answer to the question.
Excellent

Demonstrates an accurate and complete
understanding of the question.

Backs conclusions with data and
ideas, examples and/or
arguments that support the answer.
