Memorize and Present Poetry - Inside Out & Back Again 
Students will memorize a poem from Inside Out & Back Again, then recite it to the class. This will be due on February 16/17, 2017.

Student is well prepared and it is obvious that he/she rehearsed their chosen poem thoroughly.
Good

Student is well prepared but the presentation of the poem requires a few more rehearsals.
Fair

Student is not well prepared and would benefit from many more rehearsals.
Weak

Student is obviously unprepared for the task. No evidence of any rehearsals.
Memorization

Excellent

The student has memorized the entire poem and is able to present it without error.
Good

The student has memorized the poem and is able to present with just one or two errors from which he/she recovers.
Fair

The student has memorized the entire poem and is able to present, however makes three+ errors and doesn't fully recover.
Weak

The student has not memorized the poem, and has trouble communicating its message.
Pausing and Pacing

Excellent

The student uses pauses and pace effectively to communicate meaning and/or enhance dramatic impact of the poem.
Good

The students uses pauses and pacing to communicate meaning and/or enhance dramatic impact of the poem.
Fair

Pauses and pacing were not effective in improving meaning and/or dramatic effect. Pauses and inappropriate delivery makes it difficult to comprehend.
Weak

Pauses were not intentionally used. Poetry is choppy and “sing-song.” Delivery is either too quick or too slow. Reads words with no logical grouping making it difficult to understand.
Clarity and Expression

Excellent

The student speaks clearly, distinctly, and with appropriate and varied pitch and tone modulation. Recites loudly enough for all to hear throughout the presentation.
Good

The student speaks clearly and distinctly. Some minor lapses in pitch, tone and volume OR the emotion conveyed did not always fit the content OR emphasis ws uneven.
Fair

The student speaks clearly but is, at times, indistinct, too quiet, and/or pitch was rarely used OR the emotion it conveyed often did not fit the content. Volume was too low making it hard to hear.
Weak

The student does not speak clearly, mispronounces words and is inaudible to the audience. Spoken in monotone. Volume was low and the he/she could not be heard.
Eye Contact

Excellent

The student makes eye contact with every member of their classroom audience.
Good

The student makes eye contact with most of their classroom audience.
Fair

The student makes minimal eye contact with their classroom audience.
Weak

The student makes little to no eye contact with their classroom audience.
