franciskelley's Website

Hello all, and welcome to my website.  Here I’ll provide a brief introduction to myself, my future as a teacher, and my relationship with technology in and out of the classroom.

To those who don’t know, I am Francis Kelley, a 23 year old Graduate student at Marquette University.  I received my Bachelor of Science in Physics from Denison University in 2007 and entered Marquette’s Post-Bac program later that same year.  I decided to expand my horizons and seek certification in broad field science so that I can teach any of the big three (Physics, Biology, Chemistry) at the secondary level.

I am of a generation of learners and teachers that seem to have taken technology for granted.  It has always been a part of my life, both socially, and educationally.  I cannot recall a time when I didn’t use technology on a daily basis and it rarely occurs to me that there are some classrooms less “wired” than mine have been as a student. I have learned in this class that despite my relative comfort, there is an entire world of technology out there that I was once unfamiliar with that can be used to supplement good educational practices.  Webquests, Wikis, Virtual Worlds, and other instruments were all foreign to me but I am now confident in their abilities and excited to try them in my own classroom.

In my future classroom, I hope to instill in the students a sense of wonder at the intricacies present in the science around them.  I want them to be amazed by all the connections they see but also realize that while sometimes astoundingly complicated, all the science that they encounter in class is present in their daily lives.  I hope to teach my students that no matter there chosen profession, they will use what they learn in my classroom.  Technology will play a great role in this philosophy as we use it to bridge the gaps between our classroom, and the scientific world around us.
